How Much Does It Cost to Rent a Dumpster for a Kitchen or Bathroom Remodel?

Kitchen and bathroom remodels are two of our most common residential jobs, and the debris mix — cabinets, tile, drywall, old fixtures — is different enough from general junk that it’s worth sizing separately from a generic cleanout.

Bathroom remodel: typical sizing

A single bathroom gut — old tile, vanity, tub or shower surround, toilet, subfloor if it’s being replaced — usually fits a 10-yard dumpster, occasionally a 20-yard if tile demo is extensive or there are two bathrooms being done at once. Tile and old cast-iron tubs are heavier than they look; mention these when booking.

Kitchen remodel: typical sizing

A full kitchen gut — cabinets, countertops, flooring, appliances, and often some drywall — typically needs a 20-yard dumpster. Kitchens generate a lot of bulky-but-light debris (cabinet boxes) alongside a few genuinely heavy items (stone or quartz countertops, old appliances), so a mid-size container balances both.

A note on old countertops and tubs

Granite, quartz, and cast-iron are dramatically heavier per square foot than laminate or fiberglass. If your remodel includes swapping out either, tell us specifically — it’s often the single biggest weight factor in an otherwise mid-size remodel job and can be the difference between staying under your tonnage allowance or not.
