“Flat-rate” gets used loosely in this industry. Some companies mean it literally; others use it as a marketing term for a base price that still has variable add-ons layered on top. Here’s how to tell which you’re getting.

What true flat-rate pricing includes

A real flat-rate quote covers delivery, pickup, a defined rental period, and a specific tonnage allowance, all disclosed before you book. The number you’re quoted is the number on the invoice, assuming you stay within the weight and time limits agreed upfront.

What variable pricing looks like

Variable pricing quotes a base container price and bills separately for delivery mileage, disposal by actual weight (rather than an included allowance), and time on-site. It can work out cheaper for a very light load, but it makes the final cost hard to predict before pickup.

Five questions that reveal which one you’re getting

  • Is delivery and pickup included in this price?
  • What’s the included weight allowance, and what’s the overage rate per ton?
  • How many rental days are included, and what’s the extension fee?
  • Are there any items that carry a separate surcharge?
  • Will I get an invoice that matches this quote, or is this an estimate?
